Park bike, skates rental allowed only until Jan. 31

SKATES and bicycle rental at the Maysaysay Park will only be allowed until the end of this month, January 31, 2018, the Davao City Economic Enterprise said.

CEE office-in-charge Maribeth Lumactod told SunStar Davao in a text message last Friday that the operation of the rental business in the park will be stopped in line with the new park rules.

"They are given until January 31 to operate," Lumactod said.

The new park rules in all parks within the city include no skating and no bicycling within the park premises.

Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) office-in-charge engineer Marivic Reyes said in a separate interview with SunStar that no skating, no bicycling rule in all parks is approved to ensure the safety of park goers.

"Gina-iwasan namo nga madisgrasya sila (We really want to avoid accidents)," she said.

Reyes said eventually the operations of the rental of skate shoes and bikes at Magsaysay Park will have to be stopped.

Reyes said the skates and bicycle rental has been given business permit, but since it is now for renewal, it will no longer be allowed to operate.

She also said there has been a rule approved by the Parks Board that any stall or anything placed in the park must go through the board.

The new rules and regulations in the parks are unanimously approved by the Davao City Parks Board composed of City Mayor's Office, Cenro, Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Tourism, City Planning and Development Coordinator, City Tourisms Office, City Engineer's Office, City Legal Office, Association of Barangay Captains (ABC), Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Public Works and Highways, City Transportation and Traffic and Management Office (CTTMO), and Davao City Culture and Arts council.
