THE trio of Joy Anthony Ong, Ferdie Chua and Niel Anthony Ong played soundly for a 7-under 65 to snag the overall team lowest gross title in the Ludo30 Golf Tournament For Marawi, which wrapped up last Saturday.
The troika flashed a 34-31 card for a gross 65 in the 18-hole tournament, which used a three-man team scramble format, at the Cebu Country Club in Banilad, Cebu City.
The three players came up with two birdies in the front nine at holes Nos. 1 and 6 and parred the rest of the holes to start the tournament on a high note with 34.
It got better on the back nine as they shot a solid 31 built from impressive five birdies and four pars. The team birdied holes Nos. 10, 11, 13, 16 and 18 while parring the other four holes.
The team of Jack Jamero, Lee Wun Sun and Frutu Teodorico, meanwhile, bagged the overall team lowest net crown. The 22-handicapper squad had a 37-36 card and finished with a net 51 in the tournament organized for the benefit of the family of the fallen soldiers who liberated Marawi.
Johnny Siao, Gerry Gollon and Edwin Kaw topped the Members-Members division after scoring net 52, winning with a point-margin against five other teams who had 53.
The team of Jayjay Neri, Frederic Chiongbian and Julius Pierre Neri was one of the teams who had 53; they outlasted four other teams in a countback to take the second place award.
Nino Bascon, Mariano Martinez and Ace Serafin placed third after beating three teams in a countback, while the trio of Edwin Medalle, Gene Matiga and Nelson Yuvallos got fourth place after beating two teams in a countback.
Help given
On the other hand, Ramon Villordon, William Ascura and Julianito Montecillo conquered Member-Guest division after scoring 52 and beat Doni Suico, Richard Mendoza and Brenzon Cabintoy in a countback. Suico, Mendoza and Cabintoy settled for second place.
Collin Go, Philip Huang and Antonio Sikimhua scored 53 and won over four teams in a countback to take third place. Nicolas Parilla, Rhanjee Lao and Alfredo Cabajar also had 53 and beat three teams in the countback to finish at fourth place.
Tournament organizers led by Douglas Luym turned over the proceeds to the Department of National Defense (DND) chief Delfin Lorenzana and the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Dino during the awarding ceremony last Saturday night at CCC.
“This will help the families of the fallen soldiers. We know that we can never replace the lost lives but with this help, we can ease the pain and burden of the families,” said the defense secretary on his speech.
The organizers said that they had raised about P8 million. Some tournament expenses will be deducted and the net amount will be given to the beneficiaries.
Luym earlier said that the families of 165 fallen soldiers and policemen will be the beneficiaries of the event, backed by Ludo, Total Power, Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco Jr. and E Power. (RSC)
