Capitol worker proposes during flag-raising ceremony

A MARRIAGE proposal spiced up Monday's flag raising ceremony at the Provincial Capitol of Misamis Oriental.

Like in a romantic Romeo and Juliet movie, Capitol worker John Mark Abanil asked the hand of his girlfriend for 15 years, Ceralyn Cabili before a stunned crowd that includes Governor Yevgeny Emano.

Abanil was overwhelmed with emotion while holding a ring on his right hand when his long-time partner said "Yes" that drew a lusty cheers.

They were then locked in a kiss.

Abanil, who is assigned at the Provincial General Services Office (PGSO), and Cabili have been in a relationship since January 1, 2003 and finally a wedding bell is beginning to chime.

Meanwhile, Emano said he admired Abanil for showing to the whole capitol community how he truly loves his girl.

Yet, the governor asked him to continue that strong love even after marriage.

"Duha lamang ka butang ang akong gihangyo sa mga empleyado sa Kapitolyo probinsyal nga buot mosulod sa salag sa kaminyuon. Una, kinahanglan responsable ka sa imong mamahimong pamilya ug ikaduha nga likayan unta ang pag-abuso sa imong kapikas, physical man o verbal," Emano said.

A souvenir photo of the couple together with all capitol employees is also initiated by the governor to show his support for the newly-engaged. (Cyrill Garcia, USTP intern)
