Alegria road accident had 7 casualties, not 9 as earlier reported

CONTRARY to an earlier report, there were only seven casualties and not nine during a road crash in the town of Alegria involving doctors and nurses on their way to a medical mission.

Senior Insp. Efren Diaz, chief of the Alegria Police Station, said they are now preparing to file the case against the v-hire driver, Gilbert Adlawan dela Cruz, 44.

“The documents are now being prepared for the charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and serious physical injuries,” Diaz said.

The casualties, all Filipino-American doctors and nurses, were Aurora Gagni, Joseph Huang, Juvella Huang, Nunilo Rubio, Rey Pascual and Berniti Rojas and Diana Pascual.

Three survivors were admitted to a private hospital in Cebu City and were identified as Elenita Rubio, Leonor Tsai and Fred Chai.

“According to our investigator who went to the hospital, the three were in the Intensive Care Unit. The doctor said they are in stable condition. He saw one of the victims moving,” Diaz said.

The Alegria Police Station chief said that the family of the deceased will push through with the filing of charges against dela Cruz.

“Some of the victims’ family already reached out to us,” he said.

The victims were killed last Saturday noon after their hired van hit a mahogany tree in Barangay Legaspi, Alegria.

They were on their way to Kawasan Falls in Badian, Cebu and were supposed to conduct the medical mission yesterday in Camiguin Island. (JOB)
