'Mentally-ill' man shot dead in Carcar City

(UPDATED) -- A 39-year-old man believed to be mentally ill was shot dead by an unidentified assailant in Upper Kamagayan in Barangay Perrelos, Carcar City past 4 p.m. last Monday.

Police identified the fatality as Renato Lawas Sasutil, who succumbed to gunshot wound in the body.

Before the incident happened, Police Officer 2 Jomarie Villar said the investigation showed that Sasutil was sitting on a stone when the gunman approached him and shot him.

The gunman left the neighborhood after shooting the victim, who was rushed to Cebu Provincial Hospital in the city.

Sasutil did not make it to the hospital alive.

Police theorized that a personal grudge may have been the reason behind the attack.

Investigators led by Senior Police Officer 4 Jorame Tanudtanud received a report that the victim had the habit of destroying his neighbor's plants.

Crime scene investigators failed to recover a slug and empty shell. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
