Bacolod resident killed by motorcycle-riding gunmen

A RESIDENT of Bacolod City was killed by two unidentified men on a motorcycle along Rizal Street in Purok Sambag, Barangay Pilar, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental early Monday morning.

Police identified the fatality as Jonie Noli, 49, of Purok Magnolia, Barangay 7, Bacolod City.

Chief Inspector Jake Barila, town police chief, said Noli and his wife, Hazel, 48, were on their way home on board a tricycle at 1:10 a.m. when the assailants followed them.

One of the two assailants fired at the victim, who was driving the tricycle.

The victim was hit in the chest and stomach and was brought to a hospital, but did not make it alive. His wife was unharmed.

Barila said the couple came from Kabankalan City, where they sold corn, during the highlights of Sinulog Festival.

He said the perpetrators have yet to be identified.
