DOT to launch child safe tourism program in Central Luzon

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Department of Tourism (DOT) will launch on Sunday, November 15, its Child Safe Tourism program in Central Luzon in a bid to build a supportive environment for children, particularly in the travel and tourism community.

DOT Regional Director Ronnie Tiotuico said the program aims to provide the best quality service for children and youth of both genders in tourism enterprises through child-focused service training for tourism workforce and best practice solutions.

“Due to rapid advancement in technology and social media, many children throughout the global community are facing a wider range of risks. They are forced to work on the streets and are at risk of physical, sexual and emotional abuse, accidents or bad health. This is when our role of saving their future becomes crucial,” Tiotuico added.

To show force and unity in spreading the campaign, the activity will commence with a historic fun walk at the Bayanihan Park and Walking Street in Angeles City towards SM City Clark.

Afterwards, a program will be held where key personalities and officials will give their messages, followed by the symbolic presentation of the “7 Travel Tips” and signing of covenant on child safety.

Close to 200 children and guardians, as well as representatives from partner national government agencies, non-government institutions, academe, and stakeholders from the tourism and hotel sector, are expected to attend the event.

This will be the first to be launched this year and the fifth nationwide after Boracay, Cebu, Bohol, and Puerto Princesa. (CLJD/MJLS-PIA 3)
