Passenger vehicle bursts into flames

A PUBLIC utility vehicle (PUV) burst into flames along national highway in Barangay Pampanga, Davao City yesterday.

Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Davao City Fire and Arson Investigator Ramil E. Gillado said on Tuesday that the passenger vehicle was totally burned. The fire broke out around 12 p.m. and personnel of the BFP immediately responded and contained the fire.

It was put under control at 1:15 p.m. and firefighter declared it fire out at 1:20 a.m. No one was hurt in the incident.

The incident happened in front of Jollibee Pampanga along Maryknoll Drive. The PUV’s route is from Sasa to J.P Laurel Avenue.

He said that there were passengers during that time but were able to immediately disembark before the fire worsened.

The cost of the damage has yet to be determined as the owner has not yet provided the BFP on the cost of the vehicle.

He identified the driver as a certain Evangelio Johnlery while the owner of the vehicle is Luther Napenas.

Based on their initial investigation, the probable cause of the fire could be electrical arc, either grounded or short circuit.

He added that the recent fire incident is the fourth incident of the year.
