FOUR were killed including one soldier and three members of the New People’s Army (NPA) while seven other troopers were wounded during a five-hour shootout between government forces and the terrorist group on Monday, January 22 in Luayon, Makilala, North Cotabato.
Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) Public Information Officer Major Ezra Balagtey said troops were able to foil the attack of the terrorist group in their Cafgu Active Auxiliary (CAA) Patrol Base in Luayon, Makilala.
The firefight started 12:15 a.m. and lasted until 5 a.m.
After the armed clash, members of the terrorist group scampered to different directions leaving the dead bodies of their companions at the encounter site.
Likewise, based on the report they received from the ground, there were seven troops -- one regular soldier and six CAA -- who were wounded during the incident while one was reported to have been killed-in-action (KIA) identified as CAA Julito Apala.
Balagtey, meanwhile, lauded the bravery of the soldiers who fought with all their might to protect their base as well as the people near the area.
“We salute the gallantry of the troops for defending not only their patrol base but also the community. They were discriminating in firing their weapon considering that NPA terrorists mixed with the civilians in their escape,” Balagtey said.
Meanwhille, Lieutenant Lea Canseran of the 39th Infantry Battalion identified the slain NPA terrorists as Raymart Pusiana alias Rocky, a resident of Purok 5, Barangay Malabuan, Makilala, North Cotabato; Arman O Mendoza, a resident of Barangay Nuling, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat and Tata Labajo alias Reden from barangay Batong, Malungon, Sarangani.
