Iloilo guv turns over various projects in Ajuy

GOVERNOR Arthur Defensor Sr. led the turnover and inauguration of various projects in the Municipality of Ajuy on January 23 in a ceremony held at Ramon Rojas Memorial Gynasium in Ajuy, Iloilo.

First on the list was the turnover of a check amounting to P3 million as counterpart contribution of the Iloilo province for the implementation of various projects identified by 13 prioritized barangays in Ajuy under the Kalahi-CIDDS.

The governor also turned over the newly constructed patrol boats to be used for Bantay Dagat operations in its relentless campaign against illegal fishing activities.

The recipients of patrol boats are the municipalities of Dumangas, Barotac Viejo, Carles and Ajuy.

Iloilo province, through its Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro), has also completed the installation of rain water harvesting unit for Ajuy worth P610,047.50.

Penro contributed P460,047.50 for the project, while the local government of Ajuy shared P150,000 as its counterpart.

Defensor led the ribbon cutting ceremony at the gymnasium.

On the same venue, a ceremonial turnover of check for the concreting of Nasidman-Barrido road in Ajuy was led by Defensor. The project is worth P2.4 million.

Village chief Fe Songcayawon of Barangay Barrido, Ajuy, said they are very grateful to Defensor for the assistance.

During the ceremony, the One-World Japanese Language Training Center was also inaugurated in Ajuy.

A number of poor but deserving young people in the municipality undergo Japanese language lessons in preparation for their employment in Japan after completing their Tesda courses.

The Iloilo Provincial Government is in partnership with the local government unit of Ajuy and One-world for the expansion of the program in the entire province.

Also present during the ceremony were Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Director Anthony Nuyda, DILG Provincial Director Teodora Sumagaysay and Board Member Lorenz Defensor. (PR)
