Getting fit with pole dancing

ALMOST always health and fitness is associated with proper diet and cutting down on food choices. Sometimes this means having to abstain from eating too much sugar or carbohydrates just to keep the figure and also to make sure that the sweat-producing one hour or so in the gym will not go to waste only because of two slices of cake.

But what if we tell you that you can be firm and fit while having the liberty to eat whatever you want? Pole fitness dancing is not widely adapted in a lot of fitness centers and gym in Davao City yet but it is here and a lot of pole fitness dancers are enjoying their firm and fit body without restricting their diet.

Evolve Pole Fitness and Aerial Arts Studio is the only pole fitness studio in Davao City that offers this and they have about 40 professional dancers and students now.

Leanne Abigail Jorda, pole fitness instructor of Evolve Pole Fitness Studio, shared how pole fitness is more than just being fit and losing weight. She continued saying that pole fitness dancing is an art and a discipline of grace and following rules all rolled into one non-boring form of exercise and self-expression. Even with the basic rules, Abigail said pole fitness dancing will let out the creativity within the dancer.

Pole fitness dancing is a very challenging form of dance especially when starting. As Abigail recalled her first time with the pole, she had bruises all over her legs but through time, as her grip tightened she felt how that form of dancing really is an art. She was able to manage herself with the pole without bruises anymore.

“Pole fitness dancing is really a combination of flexibility and strength,” said Abigail. Through years of teaching and dancing pole fitness, she understood how these two disciplines will always go together. A pole fitness dancer may not be successful in the craft without learning the two together.

Unlike going to the gym where only specific muscles and parts of the body are being concentrated on, pole fitness dancing tones the entire body as various parts of the body is required for both balance and grace.

Pole fitness dancing disciplines the dancer for firmer grip of the legs and the arms which results in toned muscles on these parts of the body.

This results to a loss of weight in a healthy and sexy manner. As people may think that pole fitness dancing is only for thin people, Abigail said this is not true as even in other parts of the country where pole fitness dancing is a trend, plus-sized students are accepted and are actually excelling in the craft as good as the thin students.

Because of pole fitness dancing, students didn’t just gain toned body but most importantly they were able to be confident of themselves. As they were able to do pole tricks that they thought they couldn’t do in the start, they became more and more enthusiastic to come and do pole fitness with their new found friends in the circle.

As this craft involves risk, it is indeed a must that safety comes first before anything else. Even when it is considered an art and allows the dancer’s creativity, it is still a requirement to follow rules in the studio to avoid accidents.

As for interested students who have scoliosis or mothers who have just given birth, the studio requires medical certificate. But aside from that, pole fitness dancing is for all ages and gender.
