A 65-YEAR-OLD businessman was shot dead on Thursday afternoon, January 25, by an unknown assassin inside his store in Barangay Poblacion, Pinamungajan town, Cebu.
Police identified the fatality as Renato Almodal Gepitulan, who succumbed to a gunshot wound in the back of his head.
Gepitulan's wife told the police that her husband had no enemies.
The culprit, who wore a black sweatshirt and ball cap, left the crime scene on a motorcycle driven by another man.
Investigators have yet to determine the motive behind the attack and identify the gunman, who is about 25 to 35 years old.
Before the shooting happened at 1:30 p.m., Gepitulan, a resident of Barangay Pandacan, was sitting on a chair in the cashier's booth of his meat store inside the Pinamungajan Public Market.
He did not notice the gunman approached him from behind and shot him once.
Afterwards, the gunman shouted, "Hala, gipusil ko (Damn, I was shot)!"
Several persons witnessed the incident, but they failed to see clearly the gunman's face.
Police recovered a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera's footage that captured the incident, but it needs enhancement. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
