Asturias town surrenders 35 loose firearms

THE Municipal Government of Asturias, Cebu surrendered on Wednesday unrenewed licenses of 35 short firearms to the police.

Senior Inspector Jade Sumugat, Asturias Police Station officer-in-charge, said Municipal Treasurer Emma Marie Baliguat witnessed the turnover of a .9mm Glock pistol, nine .9mm Tanfoglio pistols, 25 .9mm Taurus pistols and 71 magazines on Wednesday, January 24.

He praised town officials' support for the police's campaign against loose firearms.

Sumugat said the local government unit is still processing the papers of the firearms.

He said the Municipal Council decided not to keep the guns, to prevent misuse.

"I know there are other(s) out there who are in possession of loose firearms or who have been delinquent in updating their firearm license records. I urge all owners of loose firearms to emulate what Asturias LGU's example by surrendering their expired guns to the PNP," Sumugat said. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
