New city library groundbreaking set

THE City Government of Davao will hold groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Davao City Library building on January 30, the City Engineer's Office said.

Engineer Joseph Dominic Felizarta said demolition of the buildings located at the former Central 911 building along C. Bangoy Street, fronting Davao Light and Power Company, will start on January 31 after the groundbreaking of the new P40-million, four-story building.

In a previous interview with Davaol City Library head Pedrita Badar, the new city library's ground floor will cater to persons with disabilities, children and senior citizens.

The building will have elevators and each floor will also have restrooms.

Badar said there will also be a floor designated for the computer area.

The office currently has 10 computers and they are requesting 20 more for the new building.

Additional personnel, she said, has been proposed but they will need to observe the demand for more personnel in the first six months of the library's operation.

The expected completion of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation-funded building is in 2019.
