Medellin regulates firecrackers

FIRECRACKER and pyrotechnic sellers in Medellin, Northern Cebu may soon find stricter requirements in selling their products during Christmas, New Year and special holidays after the Medellin Municipal Council approved an ordinance regulating the manufacturing, selling, distribution and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnics.

The ordinance, which was approved on final reading last year, is currently being assessed by the Cebu Provincial Board through the Provincial Committee on Public Safety and Police Matters chaired by PB Member Sun Shimura.

Residents are required to secure a mayor’s permit if they plan to use firecrackers and pyrotechnics for public or private occasions.

Exceptions include municipal and barangay religious fiestas; municipal celebrations like the annual Katubhan Festival; national holidays, school activities, Christmas and New Year. (JKV)
