St. Anthony Junior College Batch 1963

FIFTY YEARS AGO today, the first batch of graduates for 1963 came out of the door of then St. Anthony Junior College, founded by the revered Catalino D. Yap, a prominent educator and an excellent speaker.

St. Anthony Jr. College then was a school of note, the instructors thereof being guided by exacting standards of education and the school hours being observed strictly.

Violation of school regulations meant expulsion, depending on the severity of the offense. I was elected student governor when I was in third year, much to the chagrin of the fourth year candidate.

High school life was a memorable and enjoyable episode for most of the studentry who savored the music of Frankie Avalon, Dion, Paul Anka and, of course, Elvis Presley. Some students even sported the Elvis Presley look and haircut; some wore bell bottom pants. The sounds then consisted of Diana, Oh Carol, Run Around Sue, I Can't Stop Loving You and others.

On February 7, 2018, SAJC Batch 1963 will hold a reunion at Venmari Resort, Barangay Poblacion, Mabalacat City. The surviving members of that batch will fondly remember those
who passed on: Eugenio Aguarin, Romeo Arcilla, Bienvenido Bayani, Remigio Cadiang, Benito Calilung, Antonio Carlos, Augusto Castro, Primo Dizon (the batch's salutatorian), Orlando Galang, Reynaldo Galura, Orlando Ines, Jose Miclat, Danilo Nucum, Jose Ong, Federico Puno, Leonardo Pusod, Ricardo Rivera, George Rodrillo, Jesus Tornato, Romualdo Yalung, Merlita Balingit, Nelia Dionisio, Angelina Manaloto, Rosario del Rosario, Nonita Tanglao, Crisencia Yumul, Juanita Guintu, Rolando Cayabyab, Ronaldo Rivera, Amelia Arcega and Adela Abedoza.
