With songs, family, friends bid goodbye

SunStar Cebu’s news editor Olga Marie “Gingging” Aledo-Campaña was laid to rest yesterday afternoon.

Surrounded by her closest friends, co-workers and family, Campaña, 46, was buried in the St. Lazarus Catholic Cemetery in Barangay Bolinawan, Carcar City.

Campaña worked for SunStar Cebu for 20 years, first as a staff reporter then as news editor. She succumbed to a ruptured aneurysm last Jan. 11.

Before her burial, a requiem was offered for Campaña at the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Catherine of Alexandria in Carcar at 1 p.m.

As Campaña’s remains were brought to the churchyard, a mix of classic 80’s songs were played.

Campaña was an avid fan of classic songs.

Before she was buried, Campaña’s batchmates in Carcar Academy offered messages and songs for her.

Campaña’s eldest daughter, Karen Claire, also wrote a message for her mother made of snippets from Gingging’s favorite songs.

“It was like ‘Only Yesterday’ that a golden heart stopped beating. Hard-working hands at rest, God made you a ‘Superstar’ because he brought you to the ‘Top of the World.’ From that peak, you still remain humble and faithful. You became the sunshine of our lives. I know ‘I Won’t Last A Day Without You’ but God always reminds us that Mama Gingging is just ‘Close To You,’ in our hearts and minds,” she said.

“The love that she left us will always remain until forever. ‘It’s Going to Take Some Time’ to slowly go on without you but we will always miss your ‘Sweet, Sweet, Smile.’ Mama, we will always miss you. ‘A Rainbow Connection’ through prayers and love will always bind us together and take us through ‘Those Good Old Dreams’ like it was just ‘Yesterday Once More.’ I love you Ma, forever and always,” she added.
