Investments in Davao Region down by 26% in 2017

COST of investment projects made and registered under the Board of Investments (BOI) Davao Region dropped by 26.71 percent to only P7.53 billion in 2017 from P10.27 billion in 2016.

In the data provided by BOI Davao, investments made in 2017 were from different industries such as manufacturing, real estate, energy, and agriculture.

Top investment made in 2017 was by San Miguel Foods, Inc.’s establishment of whole dressed chicken and processed chicken production in Sta. Cruz, Darong, Davao City during the first quarter.

The project cost P1.33 billion and was able to employ 514 people. It has a capacity of producing 17,215 dressed chickens annually and 16,892 metric tons (MT) of processed chicken parts every year. The project has a target of commercial operation this January 2018.

It was then followed by a project by Communities Davao, Inc. specifically the development of a low-cost Camella Davao housing project at Buhangin, Davao City which cost P1.05 billion with more than 1,000 housing units. It was also able to employ 280 employees. This project was also registered on the first quarter of 2017.

Another housing development was also one of the top investments made in 2017. During the third quarter of 2017, 8990 Housing Development Corporation’s low-cost housing project at Deca Homes Mulig, Toril, Davao City cost P763.15 million and was able to develop 1,590 housing units. The company employed 445 workers for the said project.

In 2016, investments came from more varied industries. They were investments made for agriculture, real estate, manufacturing, transportation and storage, accommodation and food service, and power.

Top investments in 2016 were San Miguel Foods, Inc.’s animal feeds production in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, Davao International Container Terminal, Inc.’s seaport expansion in Panabo City, Davao del Norte, and the Arezzo Place Davao development of Phinma Property Holdings Corporation in Pampanga, Davao City.
