3 dead, 4 injured in road mishap

THREE persons who came from Dinagsa Festival in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental were killed while four others were injured after they figured in a vehicular accident at Stop Oso, Barangay Burgos in the northern Negros city Sunday night.

Police identified the fatalities as Angelica Laguna, 27, her son Zian Niel Gonzales, 4, and family friend Joana Valero, 25, all residents of Bacolod City.

Wounded were Laguna’s partner Mario Gonzales, 30; Mary Grace Castro, 24, both of Bacolod City; and motorcycle riders Gregyn Palma, 49, and his daughter Crystalyn Joy Palma, 22, both of Barangay Burgos, Cadiz City.

Chief Inspector Rocky Desear, chief of Cadiz City Police Station, said the elder Gonzales was driving a tricycle on their way home around 10 p.m. when a canter truck driven by an unidentified man collided with their vehicle.

The sidecar got detached and hit a motorcycle tailing them. It caused injuries to the motorcycle riders.

The truck and the tricycle made a final stop in a canal.

Three of the four victims are still confined at a hospital in Bacolod City while the other one was discharged.

Desear said they already have a lead on the whereabouts of the truck driver after they were able to trace the truck owner in Bacolod.

A follow-up operation is ongoing for the apprehension of the truck driver.

The truck driver may face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicides with multiple physical injuries and damage to properties.
