Taxi cooperative to operate in Zamboanga City

THE local government's Investment Promotion Office welcomed the taxi operations in Zamboanga City.

The Asia's Latin City Transport Services Cooperative will begin operation on the second week of February, pending the issuance of accreditation by the Department of Tourism.

Jerson Monteverde, taxi transport cooperative chairperson, said at least 15 new model taxis will initially ply the route in Zamboanga City to any points in Zamboanga Peninsula for three months.

The flag down rate is P40 for the first 500 meters and additional P3.50 per 100 meters.

Monteverde said 50 taxi units will be added after three months until they reach 287 maximum taxi units to operate in a span of 13 years as required by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

Monteverde said each taxi unit is equipped with a meter reader with receipt printer, dash camera, Wi-Fi and a global positioning system for the convenience and safety of the passengers.

He thanked the City Government and other agencies concerned for their support. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
