State college president wanted after drugs, guns haul

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- A president of a state college in Barangay Doroluman, Arakan, North Cotabato, is being hunted by police authorities after he evaded a drug operation that yielded P500,000 worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) and several high powered firearms.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Soccsksargen, North Cotabato Provincial Police Office, and government troops conducted the joint search operation around 3:20 a.m. of January 29 at the staff house of Samson Molao, Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology (CFCST) president.

The university president was not there when the raiding team arrived, but five of his staff were arrested.

Recovered from his staff house were P500,000 worth of shabu, different high-powered firearms, including M14 rifle, AK-47, four M16 armalite rifles, 12-gauge shotguns, carbine rifle, and two .45 pistols, bullet magazines and live bullets and several handheld radio.

The operation was led by Levi Ortiz, director for special enforcement services of PDEA.

The search warrant was issued by Judge Alandrex Betoya of the Regional Trial Court of Kabacan.

It was revealed that the illegal drug trade inside the CFCST has been going on for a long time already and authorities have been monitoring it.

Molao is set to be charged with violation of Section 5 Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and illegal possession of firearms.

The intelligence operatives of the military and the police also confirmed that Molao's men have a direct contact with the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and that they also give drug money to the terrorists.

Investigation and monitoring at the CFCST continue.
