A Fabio-lous Escape

ONE of the most spectacular views one can ever lay eyes on is that of the sun slowly starting its descent. Striking shades of pink, orange and purple are strewn across the once blue sky. And one of the best places from which one can spot these dusk hues is Fabio’s, a pizza and pasta place along Veterans Drive, Busay.

A project of Daryl Ismael, an engineer, and his wife, an architect, Fabio’s hits the rustic nail on the head with its reclaimed wood tables, wooden plank walls, and geometric pendant lighting. Homey and inviting, the place sits on a cliff with the mountains as backdrop, and seats 20 people at a time. “It was a sudden move to open a business. We were based in Singapore but had to move back here for my wife’s pregnancy. As it is a delicate one, we can’t work in construction full-time, so we decided to open a place that serves food which we also love,” said Daryl.

The menu, developed by the couple, has stone-baked pizzas, pastas, wings, sandwiches, rice meals, and all-day breakfast fare. The pizza dough is made in-house, as are the sauces for both the pasta and pizza. Since it first opened to the public last year, the Hawaiian (tomato sauce, bacon, pineapple, mozzarella, parmesan cheese), Provence (tomato sauce, mozzarella, mushrooms, bacon), and Pepperoni pizzas have been some of the crowd favorites. The spaghetti pesto and honey-Sriracha wings are also quite popular among guests. The dishes here are served in portions so generous and appetizing, one can’t help but dig in. Refreshing drinks such as the strawberry basil lemonade, blackberry mint lemonade, and peach iced tea are also available.

Fabio’s is open from 3 to 11 p.m. on Tuesdays to Fridays, form 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays, and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays. And in case you were wondering who Fabio is, it’s the couple’s five-year-old Shar-Pei. Swing by to say hi or just enjoy good food with good company, and a good view.
