City of San Fernando celebrates 17th cityhood charter anniversary

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Local officials in the City of San Fernando headed by Mayor Edwin Santiago on Monday led the unveiling of calendar of activities for this year’s celebration of the Cityhood Charter Anniversary or Kaganapan.

Anchored on the theme “Pagmasusian ing Kaganapan akamtan, Ing syudad lakwas tayang patatagan,” numerous activities are lined up from January until the mid of February.

The 17th anniversary celebration kicked off with a Teachers’ Heroism Day and Pre-Marriage Counseling on January 30.

For the first week of February, there will be a Vision and Diabetes Screening, Citywide Cleanup, Bloodletting, Thanksgiving Mass, Founding Anniversary celebration of Brgy. Pulung Bulu, Kaganapan Arts and Crafts Fair, Padyak para sa Kalusugan at Kalikasan, Pet Mo Show Mo, Kaganapan Youth Parade and National Young Bird Show.

The Rotary Club of San Fernando will name the winners for the Outstanding Public Service Award on February 5 to be followed by the turnover of Rotary River Walk in Barangay Sta. Lucia.

There will also be a back to back Medical, Optical and Dental Mission to be held at Sindalan Covered Court on February 6 and San Pedro Covered Court on February 6.

This will be followed by the launching of Palarong Empleyado to be held at the City Hall.

For the first time, the City Health Office will host a Fernandino Nanay’s Day Out on February 8.

Jobseekers may get the chance to be employed through the Cityhood Job Fair at the SM City Downtown on February 9.

Various Fernandino products will be put on sale during a three-day Cityhood Trade Fair from February 9 to February 11 in front of the City Hall.

100 couples will wed for free this Valentine season through the Kasalan King Balen to be held on February 10. While the female LGU employees will get their Valentine treat from the city government on February 13.

Meanwhile, the search for The Most Oustanding Fernandino Award 2019 will begin on February 12.

To cap off the celebration, Pampanga High School will host its 110th Founding Anniversary or Grand Alumni Homecoming and Unveiling of NHCP Marker on February 14 and 15, respectively.

Santiago said the annual celebration serves as a gathering for all Fernandinos where they can enjoy the services and programs of the local government while commemorating the transformation of then municipality of San Fernando into a component city.

“Napakahalaga na ang bawat Fernandino ay nagkakaisa sa pagdiriwang ng espesyal na okasyon gaya nito. Ang patuloy na pag-unlad ng syudad ay bunga ng pagsisikap nating lahat kaya naman ang tagumpay na ating nakakamit ay para sa inyo rin,” Santiago added. (PR)
