THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Northern Mindanao, together with the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) and Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), has mapped priority programs to be implemented this 2018.

According to DENR Regional Director Arleigh Adorable, the strengthening of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Offices (Penros) and Community Environment and Natural Resource Offices (Cenros) is part of the 10 priority programs of DENR.

Other programs under DENR are (1) Clean Water; (2) Clean Air, (3) Solid Waste Management, (4) Geohazard Assessment; (5) National Greening Program; (6) Forest Protection; (7) Protected Area and Ecotourism Development; (8) Coastal and Marine Ecosystem Management; and (9) Clean-up of Manila Bay.

During the First Unified Regional Management conference for 2018 in Cagayan de Oro City on January 22 and 23, Adorable informed the field officials that Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu aims to "capacitate all regional directors not only in the development of DENR but also on mining and environmental related functions and activities."

He also called on the Penros and Cenros to "involve all personnel in attaining the targets for the year and be guided with the schedule of the different activities to be undertaken."

"Officials from the DENR and its line bureaus, EMB and MGB will present the integrated implementation plant to Secretary Cimatu during a workshop in Cebu City," Adorable said.

The DENR-Northern Mindanao, according to Adorable, has also collected revenue from fees and licenses amounting to more than P5.5 million.

The regional director said the sources of revenue were from the issuance of permits, tenurial instruments and fees on forestry, lands and biodiversity.

As stated in Adorable's report, the revenue generated from forestry-related permits/tenurial instruments amounted to P9,739,772; P26,606,244 for lands; P19,169,610 for Integrated Protected Area Fund ; and P61,760 for transport permit.

The revenue sources under lands include foreshore lease/permit, miscellaneous lease agreement, patrimonial properties and occupational fees.

Forest-related permits/tenurial instruments include Forest Land Grazing Management Agreement/Forest Land Grazing Lease Agreement; verification/inspection fee for cutting/transport of non-wood forest products within private lands and verification/inspection of cutting/transporting of planted and non-premium trees within private land; and Socialized Industrial Forest Management Agreement, among others.
