Police have footage of fatal shooting of 2 brothers in Punta

THE Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will invite two possible persons of interest in the killing of two seafarers in Barangay Punta Princesa last week.

SPO1 Winston Ybañez, homicide investigator, said they will invite a man and a woman (names withheld, pending verification) to explain their side on the reports of a love triangle.

“That’s our strongest lead so far, but we have yet to get their side on the matter,” Ybañez said.

Two brothers, Nick Benzen, 25, and Neil Brian Ong, 28, were killed last Saturday dawn by a lone gunman while they were drinking inside a bar on F. Llamas St.

Ybañez said they are gathering evidence and have gotten hold of some footage of the crime.

“The images of the gunman must still be enhanced and we’ll let the witnesses view it so that we can determine who he is,” he said.

The homicide investigator, in an earlier interview, said that Nick was the real target of the gunman. According to the initial investigation, the gunman approached Nick and asked if he had a lighter. The man wore a hoodie, apparently to conceal his face. Before he approached Nick, he downed two beers.

In an interview last Saturday, SPO1 Ybañez said that Neil ran out to chase the man who had shot his brother, but was also gunned down some 50 meters from where his brother was attacked.

Nick succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head while Neil was hit twice on the chest. The Ong brothers had worked as seafarers.

Investigators found four empty shells fired from a 9mm pistol at the crime scene. (JOB)
