92 policemen undergo surprise drug test

NINETY-TWO personnel of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas and Cebu City Police Station 5 (Carbon) underwent on Wednesday afternoon, January 31, a surprise drug test.

Superintendent Josefino Ligan, Regional Intelligence Division-Central Visayas deputy chief, said the purpose of the activity is to make sure that the anti-narcotics operatives are clean.

Chief Superintendent Robert Quenery, PRO-Central Visayas director, was the first officer to submit his urine sample to a team from Regional Crime Laboratory-Central Visayas past 1 p.m.

Ligan said 43 of the personnel who are from PRO-Central Visayas, while 49 are from Carbon Police Station.

Last Monday, January 29, 35 Lapu-Lapu City Police Office personnel led City Intelligence Branch Chief Mark Gifter Sucalit submitted their urine samples to the crime laboratory personnel.

Other police units and stations in the region will also be subjected to unannounced drug tests in the coming days.

He said the urine samples of those personnel who will be tested positive for drug use will be subjected to confirmatory tests and investigation.

Dismissal from service is the highest penalty for a guilty officer. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
