NBI raids illegal numbers game joint in Mandaue

AN ILLEGAL numbers game joint was raided on Wednesday afternoon, January 31, by the National Bureau of Investigation-Central Visayas Regional Office (NBI-Cevro) agents on SB Cabahug St. in Barangay Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue City, Cebu.

The team led by NBI investigator Arnel Pura implemented the search warrant issued by Mandaue City Regional Trial Court Branch 88 Judge Marc Joseph Quirante against Globaltech Mobile Online Corp.

Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) inter-branch security monitoring chief Manuel Fraginal joined in the raid.

The raid came after the PCSO complained against the company, which allegedly operated "PCSO Peryahan ng Bayan" since 2015 without permits, TV Patrol Central Visayas reported.

Pura said legitimate small-town lottery operators' earnings have dipped as a result of the illegal operations.

NBI's investigations showed the company's operation is reportedly province-wide.

During the operation, the NBI chanced upon three employees and found devices, including a draw machine, computers and cell phones.

Pura said the owners of the company will face charges for operating an illegal numbers game. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
