Biggest hotel in the Philippines to rise in Boracay

DEVELOPER DoubleDragon Properties Corp. will build the biggest hotel in the country on the resort island of Boracay in Western Visayas.

In a statement, the publicly held developer said the project will be undertaken through a joint venture between its subsidiary Hotel of Asia Inc. and partner Newcoast South Beach Inc.

Hotel101 Resort-Boracay will be the fourth development under the Hotel101 brand of DoubleDragon, which aims to have a total of 5,000 hotel rooms in its portfolio by 2020.

“We envision Hotel101 to become the largest and most recognized hotel chain in the Philippines, significantly contributing to the recurring income of DoubleDragon, and at the same time providing the market with an innovative, safe and secure investment platform,” said Edgar “Injap” Sia II, chairman of DoubleDragon and founder of the Mang Inasal franchise.

Hotel101 Resort-Boracay is envisioned to be the biggest in the country in terms of the number of rooms. It will have 1,001 rooms, adopt environment-friendly practices and promote sustainable tourism.

The hotel will be built on a two-hectare property on the beachfront cove of Boracay Newcoast, a 150-hectare tourism estate developed by Megaworld subsidiary Global-Estate Resorts, Inc.

Enrique Gonzalez, chairman of Newcoast South Beach, said it will be the “biggest green hotel in the Philippines.”

“Boracay enjoys global popularity and the upgrading of Caticlan airport provides favorable macros. We are one of the best beach front properties within the best master-planned development on the island, located on one of the best beaches in the world. As the maxim goes, it is location, location, location," Gonzalez said.

Sia, for his part, said the “new eco-friendly greenergized hotel project in Boracay puts forward our grand vision to be a major player in the hotel and resorts industry in the country.”

“It will certainly boost DoubleDragon's recurring revenues through years and will also significantly help generate economic benefits to the people of Boracay as well as contribute to pump-prime further the world-class reputation of the Island and the Philippines as a tourist destination,” he added.

The hotel will feature room suites with balcony, retail and food and beverage outlets, pool and outdoor deck, a business center, meeting rooms and function hall.

Some areas will be powered by solar panels. The hotel will be equipped with a rainwater harvesting system and is expected to be a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) certified development.

Other Hotel101 developments are in Manila, Fort Taguig and Davao City.
