4 Negros Occidental cops get award for P6.8-M drug haul

THE police chief and three personnel of San Carlos City Police Station in Negros Occidental received the Philippine National Police Medal of Merit (Medalya ng Kagalingan) for the station’s P6.8-million illegal drug haul last week.

Superintendent D’ Artagnan Katalbas Jr. and his three men were awarded by Chief Superintendent Cesar Binag, director of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Western Visayas, in rites held at PRO-6 headquarters in Iloilo City on Monday.

The recognition came after the city police force arrested motorcycle-for-hire driver Christian Unabia, 29, of Barangay Palampas, in a buybust last January 23.

It led to the recovery of an estimated P6.825 million worth of suspected “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) weighing 593.532 grams.

Unabia was charged for violation of Section 5 (sale of dangerous drugs), 11 (possession of dangerous drugs), 12 (possession of drug paraphernalia), and 15 (use of dangerous drugs) of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
