Rotary distributes vegetable seedlings for CSF village

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Rotary Club of Central Pampanga (RCCP) turned over different packs of garden vegetable seeds to officials and residents of Barangay del Rosario here in a bid to promote community vegetable farming.

The distribution was led by RRCP president Reginald David under the Gulayan Project of the RCCP. The initiative aims to turn idle backyards into vegetable gardens as well as encourage barangay officials to set up their own community vegetable garden.

The club said that vegetables could be grown through cooperative effort and the produce could be sold for commercial supply chains. They added that the families who engage in such would be able to have a regular supply of vegetables for a more healthy diet.

The group said that this aims to protect the environment by promoting organic community farming and to maintain the health of the people, the residents should start planting nutritious fruits and vegetables in any open space or in vacant lots.

Most Gulayan sa Barnagay programs utilize the use of home organic waste as fertilizer as well as other organic means of cultivation to grow vegetables and even fruits. The vegetable farming program also aims to make vegetables available and accessible in the community level for local residents.

The Gulayan Project is a pet project of District 3790, Cluster 4A, spearheaded by Past Assistant Governor Marilou Garbes and the Department of Agriculture. Cluster 4A clubs have been distributing vegetables seeds and have been promoting the need to popularize community vegetable gardening especially in urban areas.
