THE Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) in Davao Region is set to conduct a two-day special Jobs Fair on February 25 and 26, at the Almendras Gym for the more than 2,000 displaced workers of NCCC Mall, which was gutted by fire in January.
A total of 40 employers and enterprises are targeted to provide job vacancies that the 2,900 workers can choose from. These workers already include the non-regular employees such as the tenant employees, promodisers, and agency employees.
The jobs fair is a collaborative effort of Dole Davao Region, the city government of Davao, and the Public Employment Service Office (Peso).
Dole targets 30 local and 10 overseas employers to participate in the jobs fair. They have yet to finalize the number of job vacancies that will be offered. Currently, solicitation and collaboration with the different private employers are ongoing to reach their target.
As for some of the tenant employees in NCCC Mall, they have already been absorbed by their employers and have been deployed and distributed in the different branches in the city.
Cherry, a retail store tenant employee in NCCC Mall, said she had already been deployed to their branch in SM City Davao after the fire while her other co-workers are distributed to their other branches.
On December 29, an article was published by Sunstar Davao about Labor and Employment secretary Silvestre Bello III saying that the government agency will provide a month-long emergency employment for the 2,900 displaced workers of the mall including the tenant employees, promodisers, and agency employees. This emergency employment is on top of assistance provided to the family of the victims, P30,000 burial expense assistance from the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC).
