THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 raided an alleged illegal gambling game center and arrested 26 persons in Barangay Estancia-Ibabao, Mandaue City last Wednesday afternoon.
Special Agent Arnel Pura, the team leader, said that the deed of agreement between Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and Globaltech, which hosted the “Peryahan ng Cebu” engaged in small town lottery, was terminated in 2016.
Aside from serving the search warrant issued by Judge Marc Joseph Quirante of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 88 in Mandaue City, NBI agents also conducted a “bet bust” on several scattered betting stations in Mandaue and Talisay among others.
According to the NBI-7, the operation may also last for three days considering the scope of Globaltech’s operations, which reached Bogo City and Argao.
Those arrested allegedly acted as maintainers and bet collectors manning different betting stations in Mandaue City.
The case stemmed after a directive was released following requests from former PCSO Chairman Jose Corpuz, Miguel Ortiz and Procerfina Terrie, in behalf of the Saturn Gaming Corporation, which acquired exclusive rights to operate small town lottery in Cebu Province including Mandaue, the NBI-7 said.
The bureau said that Globaltech’s expanding operations directly competed with Saturn’s which resulted to reduced sales.
An existing order from Judge Nicanor Manalo of the RTC, Branch 161 in Pasig City denied the Omnibus motion for issuance of TRO sought by Globaltech which served as basis for the conduct of anti-illegal gambling operation against Globaltech. (JOB)
