Duterte to visit Cebu, meet local executives

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte will be in Cebu on Feb. 12 to meet local officials in Visayas and Mindanao.

In an urgent memorandum issued by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) 7 Director Rene Burdeos, all city and provincial directors are directed to ensure that local chief executives will attend.

According to an advisory issued by DILG Undersecretary Austere Panadero, the president will meet all provincial governors, city mayors and municipal mayors in Visayas and Mindanao on Feb. 12 in Radisson Blu.

Local officials of Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao are also asked to attend the meeting in Cebu.

The president will arrive at noon and will immediately proceed to the meeting venue.

The advisory did not specify what topics the president will discuss with local officials.

So far, there is no advisory yet as to what other concerns the president will attend to after his meeting with the local officials.

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said he will be attending the meeting.

“I have to. He is my president,” he said.

Asked what concerns he will raised with Duterte during the meeting, Osmeña said he will ask Duterte to fire some of his appointed officials, including Department of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre.

“I think he compromised himself, playing favorites to major, major tax evaders,” he said. (RVC)
