Beneco to relocate posts

THE Benguet Electric Cooperative (Beneco) is set to transfer electrical posts affected by the road widening projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the city as part of their safety measure.

Beneco Community Relations Officer Eric De Guzman pointed out the measure is in consonance with the road rehabilitation and development of the public works department.

"We cannot deny that there are still electrical posts affected by the road widening project of the Department of Public Works and Highways but we are continuously doing the transfer of electrical posts on a weekly basis," De Guzman said.

Depending on the kind of posts to be relocated and the cable lines and equipments connected with it, the cost would depend on the engineering estimates of Beneco.

"We have already coordinated with the DPWH regarding this matter and as of the moment, we have the targeted areas where we are set to do the transfer such us the scheduled clearing and transfer for each and every poles affected by the projects of DPWH," De Guzman explained.

At present, before DPWH pays the cooperative while Beneco conducts a joint inventory of its electrical posts certified by the National Electrification Administration after audit and confirmation on the estimated cost for the relocation.

"There is a new joint circular passed by the Department of Energy and DPWH which have set the guidelines and rules in the relocation of electrical posts which will be affected by the road widening projects of the DPWH," De Guzman quipped.

The joint circular answers the concern on compensation by the DPWH to the electric cooperatives nationwide affected by any road rehabilitation which states that it incorporates the costs of relocating electrical posts in the contract of the agency.

"In the prevention of blackouts due to vehicular accidents, the cooperative's engineering and networks services department continues to look into the safest place where electrical posts maybe relocated," added De Guzman.
