Manhunt on vs staff sergeant slay suspects

THE Central Visayas police director has ordered a region-wide manhunt against Edna Cabañog and alleged New People's Army (NPA) member Tomas Isugan for their alleged participation in the murder of Philippine Air Force's Staff Sergeant Mark Herbert Oberes.

Chief Superintendent Robert Quenery said on Friday morning, February 2, operatives of Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office, Cebu Provincial Police Office and Regional Special Operations Group were tasked to locate the suspects, who are believed to be in hiding in the mountainous parts of Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

"If he is really an NPA member, it shows that NPA is engaged in gun-for-hire activities. They resorted to banditry...I believe their ideology is gone, that is why they have been tagged by no less than the President (Rodrigo Duterte) himself as a terror group," he said.

He said they will check the background of Cabañog, who allegedly recruited Isugan and the alleged NPA member's two unidentified cohorts.

"We will investigate on her connections with the New People's Army," Quenery said.

Cabañog's daughter Resamie and Joshua Garciano, Resamie's boyfriend, had been arrested Thursday, February 1. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
