OCD conducts continuous monitoring of Mt. Kanlaon

THE Office of the Civil Defense (OCD)-Western Visayas continues to monitor the status of Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Occidental and prepares for any eventuality as its abnormal activity continues.

OCD-Western Visayas Director Roberto Nuñez said that as of this time, Kanlaon’s status remains at Alert Level 2 without significant activity so far.

“We still continue to monitor until such time that the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology downgrades the status of Kanlaon,” he said.

Nuñez met Friday with the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils on the finalization of the evacuation centers of the local government units (LGUs) and other mitigation initiatives.

He told the LGUs in Western Visayas that they have to submit their letter-requests for the flood control system program.

There are certain guidelines that they have to follow especially that the national government has lesser budget for quick response and mitigating programs after the national government spent P10-billion for Marawi Rehabilitation Program, he added.
