A 64-YEAR-OLD woman was killed after a tourist van hit her on the national highway in Montañeza, Malabuyoc yesterday morning.
The victim was identified as Gaudencia Teopiz. She had just bought bread at a nearby bakeshop at 9 a.m. and was crossing the street on her way home when hit.
“The van was traveling allegedly at high speed from Oslob and was supposedly bound for Moalboal. The victim then crossed the street and was hit,” PO1 Leonardo Olores, investigator on case, said.
Teopiz was rushed to M.J. Cuenco Memorial Hospital in Malabuyoc where she was declared dead.
She succumbed to serious head injuries after being thrown about seven meters from the point of impact, Olores said.
The driver, Argie Fortun, 22, is now detained at the Malabuyoc Police Station while charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide are being prepared against him.
Olores saidthe owner of the van promised to shoulder the burial expenses of the victim.
The van, with temporary plate 070110, is still in the custody of the Malabuyoc police. (JOB)
