Davao City to give P4.5-M aid to Mayon victims

DAVAO City Vice Mayor Bernard Al-Ag Jr. said that the city’s financial assistance of P4.5 million to affected families of Mayon Volcano's series of eruption in Legazpi City, Albay province will be sent next week.

In an interview on Friday with Al-ag, he said that after the council approved on suspended rules on Tuesday, January 30, the financial assistance, the city is processing the check to be sent to the affected barangays.

“In transit na ito ngayon and ipapadala ito sa municipal treasurer para ma-receive po nila yong checke,” Al-ag said.

“Pinroseso na po ang cheke because this is urgent. I think Mayor Sara Duterte is looking for ways. This is her priority actually na matanggap po ng respective municipality diyan po sa Albay [next] week.”

The City Council has given the legislative authority to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to utilize a portion of the city's Quick Response Fund (QRF) to extend assistance to several municipalities who were devastated by the continuous eruption and lava emission of the volcano.

The recipients of the assistance are Camalig, Daraga, Guinobatan, Malilipot, Sto. Domingo, Bagacay, and cities of Ligao, Tabaco, and Legaspi. Each municipality will be given P500,000.

In the report, the eruption of Mount Mayon has affected a total of 20,477 families or 79,757 individuals.
