Custodio: Quiet time

HAVE you ever experienced a time in your life that you honestly felt that all you need to get yourself together is some quiet time alone? Well I get that feeling a lot! I guess it is because each day demands a lot from us, there is just so many things that we need to do, so many goals that we need to achieve. Most days I just suck it up and endure it; but, there are days when I don't! Sometimes trying to fight off the extreme want to rest can zap your energy more than doing the work that needed to be done! So, I give in. I know it is not exactly the most adult thing to do but being able to do is when I think I need it the most just feel sooo good! Sometimes, you just really need to take a break. For your sake. And well, sometimes we are allowed to indulge, right? Some me time may seem like such a luxury but really, there are times when it is all you need to get back on track! Things have been quite crazy lately that I am actually having a hard time catching up! So you might think, “so you catch up by falling behind?”

Well... yeah. Sort of like that. To catch up, you need wind to carry you through it and at this point I can barely catch my breath, much less do anything substantially significant. For the past few weeks, I have been going around like a zombie robot, just doing stuff mostly unaware of most of the things around me. I feel so detached from everyone else and it seems that I do not know what is happening around me! These little struggles that I have may seem trivial, but I really feel that I am losing on actually living my life with eyes wide open! Although it is the adult thing to do, to just keep on going what needs to be done and just earn your pay, I refuse to do so. It is the kind of situation that breeds that feeling of detachment from all things that make life matter more than just being a human doing adult things!!

I need time to breath!!! We all need to do this at some point. Some requiring quicker attention than others. Just like an asthmatic suffering from an acute asthma attack, we all need time to rest. We all need some quiet time where we can rest, collect ourselves and catch our breath! An asthmatic attack does not let you do much even if you wanted to, it commands you to stand still and work on your breathing first before trying to do everything else! There are life experiences that command you to sit still and just pay attention to things that normally escape you when you are trying to do your usual “things.”

The thing that bothers me the most (and probably you too) about taking some time off is losing time for doing the things that I need to get done. Or losing revenue. We always hesitate to lose time and money. Sayang ang oras, sayang ang kita. Yup. I find myself with the same predicament many times, too. But there are occasions when you just need to do it, no matter what. For your sake, just do it. Deep inside you know that it will do you good. Having some real time to yourself away from the hustle and bustle of adulting may just be the thing you need to get right on track again. To be able to have the time to smell the roses and feel the sunlight on your face may just be the cure that you need from that crappy feeling you’ve been carrying around for weeks! To be able to simply breathe in and out without worries and cares may just be the thing you need to think clearly.

Sometimes I find myself feeling detached from my family and friends. I find that I do not know what they have been up to and how they are doing, even when we see each other and keep in touch every day. It feels weird to be clueless about the usual goings-on that I am usually aware about. Take a break, get some quiet time to clear your mind or catch up on the important things in your life. Take the time out to do this for yourself. Because you deserve it. Our duties and responsibilities can put a toll on us. We become so engrossed about getting things done that we neglect ourselves in the process. Happy Sunday Everyone! :)
