Women cops help inmate give birth

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga -- Two policewomen helped an inmate deliver a baby at the Angeles City Police Station 1 located at Barangay Sto. Rosario, Angeles City recently.

Authorities said that at around 9:20 am on January 30 while SPO4 Evelyn Pineda was attending to a walk-in client, she heard what sounded like labor cries emanating from the female custodial facility cell.

Pineda saw Jessiebel Abano, 33, a detainee lying on her back and on labor.

Wasting no time, available personnel immediately opened the custodial cell, where Pineda with PO1 Roosevelt Masiclat, both registered nurses, helped in the delivery of a baby.

With limited resources, the baby came out via normal spontaneous delivery without apparent complications at around 9:25 am.

Using the available resources, both the attending policewomen were able to manage the safe delivery of a baby girl by the mother.

A medical team on an ambulance from Phoenix Base brought the mother and newly born to the Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center for further medical attention.

The report said Abano was arrested for theft case. (Ric Sapnu)
