Councilor's bro, 7 others caught for drugs in Lapu, Cebu City operations

SIX men, including the brother of a city councilor, were arrested in separate police operations in Lapu-Lapu City on Monday, February 5.

Victor Amores, 50, brother of City Councilor Rico Amores, was caught with a medium pack and three sachets of crystal meth (shabu) in Purok Nangka, Barangay Gun-ob.

The drug bust conducted at 5:10 p.m. also resulted to the arrest of Victor's alleged cohort, Erwin Sullano, 41. The police officers, led by Senior Inspector Genesis Aniversario, seized some 23 sachets of shabu from Sullano.

Chief Inspector Mark Gifter Sucalit, chief of the City Intelligence Branch, said Victor had long been involved in illegal drug activities.

“Wa nato sya gibutang sa priority list, but gi-consider nato sya nga high-impact target kay diha man magkumpra sa iyaha ug mamaligya sad siya (We did not include him in the drug priority list, but we considered him as a high impact target because he is a supplier and seller of illegal drugs),” said Sucalit.

Sucalit said they have been monitoring Victor for quite a long time, but the latter often leaves the area once he senses that an operation will be conducted against him.

Sucalit said that Victor, who was reportedly a former firefighter, was a drug surrenderer.

“Ang komunidad ngadto nalipay nadakpan na sya (The community in Purok Nangka were glad after Victor was caught),” said Sucalit.

Councilor Amores will hold a press conference on Wednesday, February 7, following the arrest of his brother.

Meanwhile, police nabbed Pepito Collantes, 26, and Ernesto Milano, 40, at 6:40 p.m. Monday in the same village. Ten sachets of shabu and the marked money were seized from the suspects.

In another operation, the Lapu-Lapu City police arrested Arthur Basanta and Jomar Cabalhug, both 20 years old, in Purok Lubi, Barangay Canjulao, at 11:15 p.m.

Four sachets and a medium pack of shabu were seized from Basanta while a loaded revolver was confiscated from Cabalhug.

The illegal drugs confiscated from the six suspects, who are now detained in Lapu-Lapu City Police Office jail, were valued at P86,140, the police said.

In Cebu City, two persons were arrested by the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) after they were allegedly found in possession of P352,780 worth of illegal drugs in Barangay Duljo-Fatima last Monday evening.

Drug suspects Armando Solis, 29, and Maria Evelyn Balili, 21, were arrested in two separate anti-drug operations conducted in Sitio Puntod and 52K Spolarium St.

Packs of shabu worth P225,380 were confiscated from Balili, while Solis had P127,400 worth of illegal drugs from his possession. (FMG, JOB)
