WHEN I look at photographs, two things pop out of my mind: the overall look (clothes, hair, makeup) the subject, and the emotion they’re conveying. In my opinion, a good photograph is catching the glimpse of emotion within the individual and Davao-based photographer Ms. Jowe Posadas sure knows how to catch those moments.
Jowe started photography at 17, she always loved capturing fashion, weddings, commercial and destination. For many years, she was a freelancer while finishing her BS-Accountancy degree in Ateneo de Davao University.
This year, she finally decided and made the big leap and opened her own studio/booking office located at Valencia Corporate Center, Jacinto Extension corner Arellano street, 2nd floor of Fashion Institute of Design & Arts, Davao City Mindanao Philippines.
u201dI felt very blessed to start 2018 with my studio and my first International destination engagement session in Singapore. It’s an eleven-day trip from Jan 25-Feb 4, 2018. Featuring my pre-nuptial couple Danelle Filipinas and Bim Yurag. I met Danelle while working as an on- call photographer at SM Lanang Premier and we have planned quite some time already for our Singapore pictorial session,” Posadas said.
Here’s a quick chat with Jowe about his most recent international photography gig just right after her arrival from Singapore.
Celebdom: How did you develop an interest in photography?
Jowe: It all started with fashion design and my love for the arts especially illustration/painting. I was a frustrated fashion design student that pursued BS-Accountancy until I saw an opportunity to use photography as a creative outlet in my college stay until I became passionate about it. I realize how interesting it is to photograph what I see or imagine and quickly have an output that I can directly share or post-process/tweak as I how I want it to be.
Celebdom: What equipment do you prefer to use?
Jowe: I prefer using my DSLR camera for heavy duty workloads while I also like using my smartphone from time to time or whenever I prefer not bringing a heavy set of photography gears.
Celebdom: Do you have any formal training?
Jowe: I started from scratch but last year I joined Canon Imaging Academy featuring Canon Crusader of Light: Pat Dy for Pre-nuptial and Wedding Photography.
Celebdom: What motivates you to continue taking pictures?
Jowe: The reminder that in this lifetime- it’s either all or
nothing. And as I have found my passion and purpose in making images, it gives me all reasons and motivations to keep on going.
Celebdom: You had your international photo gig for 2018 in Singapore? What is the best thing about your trip?
Jowe: Aside from shooting the engagement session #JoweCapturesSingapore, I was also able to roam around the city all on my own. I had my fair share of getting lost in the city, walking from corners to corners, taking the buses/MRT to discover how diverse Singapore is. People speaking different languages, wearing different attires and having different lifestyles but somehow living harmoniously altogether, contributing to the genuine image of Singapore as a disciplined country.
This is why I can highly suggest Singapore to first time solo travellers especially to women. It may be a fast paced country with busy working pool of locals and foreigners but surely it is a country that is well-mannered and disciplined. Something I see Davao, my home, quite similar and perhaps in the long run will be at par.
