Drive vs colorum vehicle operators continues

THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) warned violators on the nonstop campaign against “colorum” vehicles plying various routes in the region.

LTFRB-Davao director Teresita dela Peña-Yniguez, in an interview with SunStar Davao, said their operation against colorum vehicles is discreetly done. She added that those who will be caught will face huge penalties.

In a data obtained from the LTFRB-Davao, the agency has already held 375 vehicles for franchise-related violations, five of which are colorum. The agency also collected P1,962,000 total penalties all in 2017.

"We have been discouraging the public against hiring or riding in any colorum vehicles because they have no security in it," Yñiguez said, adding that LTFRB will go after owners of vehicles operating without any permit.

LTFRB-Davao said only vehicles with yellow plates are designated for public use as per government policy. Going after colorum vehicles is one of the marching orders of the agency and it will continue to seize vehicles operating illegally.

If found guilty for transportation laws, operators of colorum vehicles will be fined P50,000 for jeepneys, P120,000 for taxis, P200,000 for vans, and P1 million for buses, based on Joint Administrative Order implemented by the LTFRB and the Land Transportation Office.
