A TOTAL of 1,975 persons with disabilities (PWDs) were given P4,937,500 educational financial assistance by the Provincial Government of Pampanga through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) recently.
The distribution held at Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center was led by Governor Lilia Pineda, together with second district Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Board Members Fritzie David-Dizon, Cherry Manalo and Benny Jocson.
The beneficiaries who are elementary and high school students and children of parents with disabilities received P2,500 each. At least 450 of them came from the first district, 430 from the second district, 715 from the third district, and 380 from the fourth district.
Pineda said PWDs can now enjoy more perks from the government at par with the perks granted to senior citizens.
She said the Provincial Government is always ready to support them not only in their education but also in their livelihood and other services beneficial to them.
Arroyo, for her part, lauded Pineda's program for the PWD sector in the province.
She also encouraged the beneficiaries to attend trainings offered by the government to prepare them for future employment opportunities.
PSWD Officer Elizabeth Estiller-Baybayan assured the beneficiaries that PWDs in Pampanga are given equal opportunities in employment, apprenticeship, incentives, and vocational rehabilitation through training and vocational courses. (PR)
