Marathon champ: Miranda not happy with 42K time

ADMITTING to missing a month's training, newly-crowned 1st 7-Eleven Run 2018 Davao women's marathon champion Judelyn Miranda said she failed to even break her recent record in Cebu City.

She checked in at three hours, 30 minutes and 34 seconds in the 7 Eleven Run to race past Vivian Avergonzado (3:40.59) and Ma. Theresa Basallo (4:49.10) who placed second and third, respectively.

"Naka-stop ko training for one month after atong National Milo Marathon finals in Cebu City. Naka 3:14 ko ato sa Cebu (I stopped training for one month after I competed in the National Milo Marathon finals in Cebu City where my record was 3:14)," the 33-year-old veteran said in a Facebook interview with SunStar Davao. She placed fourth overall in the local category of the 2017 Milo finals.

Miranda claimed she only improved in her marathon time last year since she raced in the 2014 National Milo Marathon finals where she also finished fourth.

The 7-Eleven feat had earned her a spot in an international race.

Miranda, a mother to a 10-year-old son, said, "711 sponsor sa ako dula gawas, wala pa nako hibal-an kng unsa nga country (The 7 Eleven will sponsor my race abroad but I still don't know which country)."

She said that the first three runners with the best time among three leg winners from Davao, Cebu and Manila will be sent by organizers to an international marathon but details of which were not yet known.

She will next see action in the Davao International Marathon slated March 11, however, she will be racing in the 21K instead.

In the men's 42K title went to Richeel Languido. The latter registered 2:42.27 to beat Alex Melly (2:42.32) and Bryan Quiamco (2:46.43) who grabbed the next two spots.

Meanwhile, Jerald Z1abala topped the men's 21K title over Bobby Tadlas (1:17.04) and Jimboy Lugay (1.18.21) while Christine Hallasgo, on the other hand, dominated the women's 21K division, over Emely Avergonzado (1:43.17) and Lalaine Patricio (1:44.49).

The rest of the champions: Keenan Caburnay (men's 16K), Esterlita Organiza (women's 16K), Derick De Garcia (men's 10K), Diana Mae Memoracion (women's 10K),
