RICKY Despi nailed a crucial lay-up to lift Beer na Beer Strong Young Lions in an 84-82 victory over Heineken-Blitz Villamonte in Class A of the Fil-Sino Asia Brewery Cup played at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School gym.
The Young Lions started strong establishing a 29-16 advantage behind Rimor Taronas 14 points Jaybee Alic seven points.
Blitz Villamonte outscored the Young Lions in the next two quarters to catch up at 57-all led by Bonbon Cadagat 13 points while Job Nombreda and Coleen Testa with eight points apiece.
Alic paced the Young Lions with 21 points as Taronas added 20 points. Despi added 13 points and Dondon Delima had seven markers.
Testa and Jornel Laborte shared the scoring load for Blitz Villamonte with 14 points apiece as Louie Comfao shot 12 points while Cadagat produced 15 points.
In the other match, Harvey Eslawa has 27 points to stir Cobra Plus Smart-Shakey’s in a 91-87 victory over Cobra Berry-Super Twins.
Backstopping Eslawa were JD Javelosa with 18 points while Super Twins got their scoring from Joemarie Bayhon with 18 points and Richard Verayo with 10 points.
Asahi Japs Sportswear, on the other hand, defeated Brew Kettle MSW Bleachers, 105-96, behind Randy Colonia’s 19 points. Sean Wee sunk seven triples for 23 to lead MSW Bleachers. (HGD)
