MAYOR Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar will lead the multi-sectoral groups in a Senate public hearing on the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) in Zamboanga City.

The public hearing is set at 2 p.m. Friday, February 9, at the gymnasium of the Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC).

Salazar said eight senators headed by Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, chairperson of the Senate subcommittee on BBL, are expected to arrive in this city to conduct the public hearing.

She said this city’s association of 98 Barangay Councils (ABC) and the Federation of Barangay Kagawad in Zamboanga Associations (Febarkaza) are expected to submit their respective position papers.

She said they support the passage of BBL but strongly oppose the inclusion of Zamboanga City in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (BAR).

The BAR will replace the current Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

“Our stand really is that we support BBL because it will benefit other parts of Mindanao. However, we oppose the inclusion of any of the city’s 98 barangays and municipal waters in the Bangsamoro region,” Salazar said. (SunStar Philippines)
