Capitol joins search for 3 children

THE Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) will field five personnel in Lapu-Lapu City today to conduct search and retrieval operations for the three children who went missing after a motor banca capsized off Camotes Island last Tuesday.

Rhafael Luche, PDRRMO emergency response and search and rescue division head, said the search will not only focus in the seawaters off Lapu-Lapu, but also in islands adjacent to it.

This includes Olango, Caohagan, Nalusuan and Hilutungan.

After MB Habagat Romeo capsized in Tulang Point last Tuesday morning, three children remain missing. They are Karryl Palomar, 9; Andie de Leon, 2; and Kiven Gonzaga, 4.

Luche told reporters yesterday that two divers, two medical workers and a boat skipper will be sent to Lapu-Lapu to conduct the search.

Due to the northeasterly winds or amihan currently affecting Cebu, Luche said there is a possibility that the currents have brought the three kids to Lapu-Lapu or in the areas nearby.

He is praying that their search and rescue operation will not become a search and retrieval operation. (JKV)
