Custodio: Watching Wil, Gab and Shawie

YOU all know Gab and Shawie, I’m pretty sure of that. Gabby Concepcion and Sharon Cuneta. The love team to beat in the 80s!

Their burger chain commercial came out as weekend was coming and it created so much noise on social media! I watched it an hour after it was uploaded online and I was totally floored about the kilig feelings I experienced during the two or so minute clip! Oh my God, I had goosebumps popping with so much endorphin I was simply beside myself with joy! Anlakas maka-high school throwback! I was giggling and giddy as I watched it, and I watched it over and over! Of course I was happy that they have a commercial together!!! Who wouldn’t be? (I am obviously a fan. Watched ALL of their films!) Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and this was Gabby and Sharon after 20 or so years!

More than that are the memories that came with it, like high school friends and the high school “gimiks” that would surely include cutting class (or going on Saturdays) to watch their movies! You suddenly remember the funny things you did for love as a teenager and how you would share it with your friends! Nabuhay ang puppy love! And what perfect timing to remember, malapit na ang Valentines! You just can’t help but feel good! I tagged most of my high school friends, my fellow Sharon-Gabby fans and all my other fun-loving same age or near-my-age bracket friends so they can remember it too!!!

We all deserve to remember good things that can make us smile no matter how bad our day is. We need that in our lives. We need these emergency packets of happiness to help us through difficult times, don’t you think? When they come, appreciate it and dwell in your happy moment for as long as you can! This week the Sharon-Gabby fans certainly had a field day!! When your turn comes, go ahead and enjoy!!!

Now let’s go to Wil. Wil Dasovich. I don’t know if you know him. He’s a Fil Am who used to be a PBB contestant, now a popular vlogger with more than a million subscribers on YouTube. I remember seeing him in a television commercial. And he happens to be Zac Efron’s childhood (best)friend. I knew he existed but the only time I really became interested in him was when he was diagnosed with cancer, middle of last year. I knew he was sort of an online VIP (vlogging important person hehehe) so I sought his youtube page out. It was fun and carefree. Anyone would want to be like him.

And then life dealt him that awful dud. Cancer. Ugh. I sat through his diagnosis, was there watching when he had his chemo treatments. He had a port on his chest, thru which the chemo meds entered the body; just like mine. I saw him during his good and bad days. Witnessed how his family and friends supported him and how much strength and laughter he drew from them, just like I did from mine. He refused to back down from such a formidable adversary. He exercised, laughed and lived his life and it was inspiring. I cried when he was told he was cancer free. Actually, he cried first and who wouldn’t, right? I watched him as he waited for the verdict with bated breath and I witnessed his joyful tears when he was told that there were no more signs of cancer. Pure bliss! it felt like I had survived cancer all over again!!!

Life’s lemons can be thrown at anyone and I mean ANYONE. Wil was living a charmed life. He’s charismatic, engaging at pogi din naman. He’s the YOLO (you only live once) kind of person kids these days would really like to be or become. Who would have thought right? But it did. And when it happens, all bets are off!

What you can change however, is how you choose to see the challenge. It is up to you is the decision which path to choose when you make the journey. You can choose to see the brighter side of things and walk with hope, or walk on the dark side. Life changing events are never easy to deal with but we can always choose to appreciate the positive side of it more. Wil could have chosen to sulk and feel sorry for himself but he didn’t. I could have stopped trying to live my best life too when I faced the same obstacle but I chose to live MORE. We all should, you know. For our own sake, for our loved ones and for those meant to witness to our personal journey whom we just might encourage to put in their best efforts in life. Correct? Happy Sunday Everyone!! :)
