Davao City hopes to acquire landfill site in 3 months

THE Davao City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) is now preparing the documents for the purchase of a tract of land for the proposed sanitary landfill.

But in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, CPDO office-in-charge Ivan Cortez said that before the city mayor can act on these documents, the owner of the lot should give an offer to sell and then the appraisal committee will assess the cost of land per square meter and per hectare.

"After that (assessment of the appraisal committee) then that is the time that we prepare the offer to buy by the mayor, and if agreeable, since the mayor will base it on the fair market value, we can now prepare for the contract of sale or the deed of sale and then a Sangguniang Panlungsod for the mayor to sign," Cortez said.

He said that if the owner will not agree on the price, they will conduct a conference call to negotiate in the presence of the implementing agencies and the appraisal committee.

Cortez added that the implementing agencies include the City Engineer's Office (CEO), City Treasurer's Office, City Assessor's Office, Davao City Planning and Development Office, and Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO). (KVC)
